Samuel Lorenzo

Samuel Lorenzo is a creative singer-songwriter, keyboardist, percussionist, and producer whose roots began in Norfolk, Virginia. A quiet, soft-spoken artist with a vibe that reaches the very depth of his soul, genres such as R&B, Funk, Gospel, and Jazz have inspired Samuel Lorenzo’s international, poignant and warm musical style.

Hailing from Atlantic Records’ funk/R&B group Mass Production, the group’s #1 R&B hit “Firecracker”, sampled by 2 Live Crew on their single “Me So Horny”, propelled them onto the Billboards charts. Being in the group allowed him to hone his skills as a songwriter and drummer. His role as the drummer earned him the nickname “The Banger” for his “in the pocket” groove.

While in the studio, Samuel had the opportunity to collaborate with music industry greats such as Grammy award-winning producer Jimmy Douglas and legendary jazz artists Houston Person and Herbie Mann. Other major credits include songwriting for the renowned disco group The Tramps. A versatile musician, Gospel artists such as Daryl Coley, Morris Chapman, Helen Baylor, and Alvin Slaughter, inspired Lorenzo. He was also fortunate to share the stage with them as well as other celebrated artists such as The Isley Brothers, The Gap Band, Sister Sledge, Rick James, Teddy Pendergrass, Stephanie Mills, Cameo, Peabo Bryson, Lakeside, Atlantic Starr, SOS Band, Skyy, Brass Construction, Con Funk Shun, Slave, The Spinners, The Dazz Band, and most recently Brick, The Fat Back Band, Instant Funk, The Ying Yang Twins, and Chingy.

“At the age of 14, my grandmother spoke words to me that shaped my life. She told me that I would be a minister like her father, who I am named after. Though I did not envision preaching the Gospel as my life’s work, the seed she planted left an impression on me that is now coming to fruition. When I discovered my musical talent, I saw the joy and happiness that it brought to people. And although I played R&B and funk music throughout my formidable years, my relationship with Christ grew, and it was clear that Inspirational Gospel was becoming a niche for me. I saw how God used my gift to draw others to Him by opening doors for me to perform at places that were considered non-traditional for churches or houses of worship. I was able to travel and share the Gospel with others through music,” said Lorenzo.

Samuel Lorenzo currently resides in the Philadelphia Metro area, and you can follow him on Facebook and Instagram.
